A representation of a boat pecked into the wall of a cave on the Fife coast, near Wemyss. It may be part of the Pictish rock art tradition, making it the earliest depiction of a vessel in Scotland(!). Although simple, it appears to show all of the main components of an early medieval boat, apart from a mast. The model is lit as it is viewed in the caves, by simple torchlight.
The Wemyss caves have already been expertly recorded by SWACS, and many more carvings are digitally availble on the Wemyss4D website, including laser and RTI modelling. I was lucky enough to visit the site with them and SCAPE archaeologists in October 2019.
Very happy with how this came out considering it a was a quick few photos with a phone camera. Used the phone flash for each image, and processed on Metashape. A stripped-back model is available here, to examine the carving in more detail.
