An impressive panel of rock carvings inside Jonathan’s Cave, part of the Wemyss Caves complex on the Fife coast, Scotland. Like the boat carving, the model is lit as though by torchlight. Metcap mode should show some of the art clearer, or see the DEM below.
Some classic Pictish symbols are present, such as the ‘double disc and Z-rod’, and possibly a ‘Pictish beast’ or a horse(?). Various other shapes can be seen, including a possible swan, a square, and a nice fish carved in the 20th Century.
The photos were taken during a trip in October 2019 with SCAPE archaeologists, using a phone camera with no artificial light. The model is slanted to a light source from the left (cave entrance) as a result. As ever, by far the best resource for the Wemyss Caves art and other archaeology is the Wemyss Caves 4D website, with a wealth of RTI and other models.
Again, ignore arbitrary Metashape scaling.
