More model informationMedieval piscina recess, set into the wall in the south porch of St Peter the Apostle Church, Broadstairs. Framed by a moulded stone arch of Decorated Gothic character. The recess is defined by a two-centred ogee arch with chamfered mouldings and traces of original tooling or limewash on the stone surface. The hollowed basin below, though now partially infilled and plastered, would originally have contained a drain (drip stone or piscina bowl) used for washing the communion vessels and disposing of consecrated water directly into the ground. The moulding profile and ogee form suggest a 14th-century date, consistent with parish church work of that period in Kent and the southeast.
