This non-native pine tree in Oregon’s Willamette Valley is suffering from an infestation of Pitch Moths. They burrow into the vulnerable areas of the tree where branches have been pruned.

They cause large, oozing masses of pitch that form at the wound site in response to larval feeding from beneath the bark.
