This is a plaster plaque of the Catholic Association of Mine Officers. It was a trade union, which, unlike the Dutch Catholic Miners’ Association, was only intended for miner officers, meaning their supervisors and managers. This plaque was made to celebrate the 25th anniversary to Mr H.J. Reinaerts (1920-1945) working at the Oranje-Nassau mine II. The plaster plaque was designed by Heerlense sculptor Harry Stump.
In the centre, you can see Saint Barbara holding the tower in her hand. On her left, there is Oranje-Nassau mine II above the ground with the main building in the background.
On the bottom left, you can spot a miner with a hammer in a mining corridor and on the right, a student is sitting at a school desk. At the very bottom, there is a lamp next to a filled engraved minecart with the name of the mine, O.N. II.
