This model is representing frame with engraved roman number VII from the shipwreck found near Cape Plavac on Zlarin island. The shipwreck is dated to the 1st century, based on kitchen pottery and amphore cargo composed of the types Dressel 2-4, Tripolitana II, as well as amphorae of Rhodian and Egyptian type. The ship is built with technique of mortise and tenons, typical way of assempling planks in Roman period. Unlike other Roman Shipwreck in the Adriatic, this site is exeptional due to the preservation of the frames marked with the Roman numbers. The oldest confirmed example of shipwreck with elements marked with Roman numbers is Culip VI in Catalonia, dated to late 13th or early 14th century. This numbers are clearly showing the shipwrights were using numerical system for shipbuilding much earlier than the Middle Ages, as it has been tought before.
