Released on October 13th, 2016. Sony’s first virtual reality gaming headset for home consumers, which required the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation camera. The device lacks on-board cameras, instead relying on a series of lights emitted from the headset, which were tracked by the PlayStation camera. This typically limited VR experiences to 180°, instead of a full 360°. The Move controllers were tracked using the same technology. Despite these and many other limitations, PlayStation VR managed to have an incredible selection of VR games such as Resident Evil 7 VR, PlayStation VR Worlds and Astro Bot Rescue Mission. There were also interesting immersive multimedia experiences such as the Utada Hikaru VR Experience and the Spider-Man: Far From Home Virtual Reality Experience. PlayStation VR is forward compatible with the PlayStation 5, with a PlayStation VR successor confirmed.
