More model informationPollution controls required by conventional power plants vary greatly based on the fuel that the plant is burning. Plants that burn natural gas have cleaner exhaust gases, where plants that burn coal have dirtier exhaust gases. For this presentation, we will be looking at a plant that burns coal.
When burning coal, there is a high amount of particulates that exhaust the furnace that must be removed. Coals also contain a higher amount of sulfur that combines into sulfur oxides in the exhaust gas that must be removed.
The plant model on the next page identifies the components in the plants exhaust gas flowpath that are used to remove the particulate and sulfur oxides before the gas is exhausted to atmosphere.
