More model informationThis early ninth century painted tripod plate was discovered in a burial at the archaeological site of Holmul in Peten, Guatemala. The so-called “Holmul style” of Classic Maya pottery was largely defined based on this plate. However, the dedicatory text along its rim states that it once belonged to a king of Naranjo. Therefore, the plate probably ended up at Holmul as a gift from the Naranjo ruler. The object is currently on display in the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (11-6-20/C5666)
