Castle Dürnkrut was built by the Lords of Landau. In 1622 Rudolf von Teuffenbach acquires the castle and built an early baroque castle chapel. In 1696, the Scottish nobleman Jakob von Hamilton acquires the castle and remodels it in baroque style. After the extinction of the Hamiltons, Count Franz Joseph Koháry bought the castle in 1778. Due to the marriage of his daughter Maria Antonia with Ferdinand Georg von Sachsen-Coburg, it falls to the house Sachsen-Coburg-Koháry, which transformed the tower historically. In 1985, the market town of Dürnkrut acquires the castle and establishes parts as a municipal office.
