More model information

Main portal of the Votive Church in Vienna’s 9th district. Main portal with rich figural decoration by Johannes Benk (statue of Christ the King in the midst of the apostles, surrounded by models from the Old Covenant (Abel, Noe, Melchizedech, Isaac, Samson, Aaron, Moses); in the gable above the Holy Trinity (by Josef Gasser), on the sides four evangelists and Austro-Hungarian patron saints (Koloman (Lower Austria), Vigilius (South Tyrol), Ägydius (Carinthia), Josef (Styria), Leopold (Lower Austria), Wenzel (Bohemia), Spiridion (Dalmatia), Michael (Galicia), George (Carniola), Rochus (Croatia), Nicholas of Bari (Veneto), Ladislaus (Transylvania), Justus (Trieste), Hedwig (Silesia), Ruprecht (Salzburg), John Nepomuk (Bohemia)) by Franz Melnitzky and Peter Kastlunger), above the rose window “Coronation of Mary” by Gasser.

The construction of the church was initiated by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian after the rescue of his brother Franz Joseph I (assassination attempt by Johann Libenyi on February 18, 1853).
