More model informationThe exact measurements of the two-masted schooner Portland were not recorded in historical records, but it was approximately 150 ft of which 112 ft of the keelson still exists on site. It was built in 1863 in Clayton, NY. to haul bulk cargo across the Great Lakes, which it did for fourteen years. In 1877 it was driven ashore in a bad storm in what is now called Bell Bay, Presque Isle, MI where the ship was torn apart by the storm and rocky shoreline. The entire crew survived. Today it is a popular dive, snorkel and kayak site buoyed annually by the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The model was created from 1,565 30-megapixel images shot in the 2024 season.
