Pottery sherd from the wreck of the Earl Of Abergavenny.

ID: EOA:2022.122 OE354 Collection: Earl of Abergavenny

Classification: Crew/Passengers

Measurements: Length 68mm Width 48mm

Date made: as yet unknown

Display: not on display

Manufacturer/Creator: as yet unknown

Credit: Portland Museum Trust

This unusual fragment of Chinese blue ware pottery has patterning both on the outside, and around the rim on the inside. The design is blurred but two figures on a bridge can be made out and also something that resembles a gate. The crackle glazing and poor quality design would suggest that this piece was more likely to be used on board ship, rather than for trade.
