This retopologized model set is based on two sets of medical imaging reconstructions. These models were used in a liver resection surgical animation, communicating the surgical plan for a laparoscopic pediatric posterior sectorectomy liver resection. Reconstructions were made with 3D slicer, and retopology was done using ZBrush and Cinema4D.
For this case, the post-op imaging scans provided more detail, so we combined the information from that series to augment the MRI reconstructions for preoperative anatomy. We don’t always include neighbouring organs such as the spleen and kidneys, but in instances like this where we need to correlate anatomy from separate imaging studies, it helps to include nearby structures as anatomical landmarks to use as points of reference.
