Preston Tower, 15th-century tower house3D Model
Preston Tower in Prestonpans, East Lothian, is A-category listed tower house. The lower four storeys were built in 15th century, by Sir Robert Hamilton. During the ‘rough wooing’ of 1544, carried out on behalfof Henry VIII of England by the Earl of Hertford, Preston Tower was attacked and burned. In early 17th century it got rebuilt and extended by additinal two storeys.
The tower burned further twice: first by Cromwell’s forces after the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, after which the tower was rebuilt again, only to get destroyed accidently by fire in 1663.
Following the last fire, the Hamiltons left the tower and moved to nearby Preston House leaving the tower uninhabited ever since.
This 3D survey was created as a part of Preston Tower Restoration Project led by East Lothian Council. AOC Archaeology undertook 3D recording work commissioned by CFA archaeology on behalf of Groves - Raines Architects.
