A primary flight display (PFD) is an instrument that provides a pilot with real-time situational awareness during a flight. The screen includes information such as airspeed, vertical speed, attitude, altitude and heading.
The main central section displays an aircraft’s pitch and roll attitude relative to the horizon, helping pilots maintain level flight. The lefthand section provides information about the aircraft’s indicated airspeed, while the aircraft’s current altitude and rate of climb or descent is displayed on the right. The lower section features a compass that provides the aircraft’s magnetic heading.
Note that layout and specific features vary between different manufacturers and models of aircraft.
See this flight deck navigation display model for more information about aircraft instruments.
