3D model of the Prince Eugene Equestrian Monument on Heldenplatz in Vienna
The monument honors the famous commander of the House of Austria, Prince Eugene of Savoy. The bronze sculpture was created by Anton Dominik Fernkorn and completed by his pupil Franz Pönninger. The Vienna Arsenal provided 448 hundredweights of ore for the casting.
The rectangular base with corner volutes rests on a pedestal with chamfered corners. It is decorated with inscription panels and bronze appliqués depicting figures, fruit, coats of arms and battle names. The Savoy coat of arms with lions is emblazoned on the back. The base, made of Untersberg Veitlbruch, is decorated with military equipment and a crescent moon. The imposing equestrian statue depicting Prince Eugene on a rearing horse rises on top.
On October 18, 1865, Prince Eugene’s 202nd birthday, the monument was ceremoniously inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph I.
