More model informationThe main objective of this year’s excavations was to investigate the area to the north of the Guildhall where geophysical survey indicates the presence of walls and other structures probably related to the medieval friary and post medieval mansion or Roman buildings.
The excavation involved the creation of an 11.5m by 5.5-7.5m trench at the north edge of the site, to the east of the larger of two trenches excavated in 2022. It was intended to investigate further the remains of a medieval building identified in 2022. In positioning the trench we have had to respect tree root protection areas for the series of mature trees in this part of the park.
