More model informationThe correspondence principle states that there is a connection, a certain relationship between the outer morphology (crystal shape) on the one hand and its inner crystal structure on the other.
- Pyrite is a mineral made of iron and sulfur, (FeS2 - iron disulphide);
- Pyrite is cubic with unit-cell edge ~ 5.42Å;
- If we look at larger scale, the atomic arrangement resemble the shape of the real crystal (in this case a modified dodecahedron).
This is a crystal structure of Pyrite (space-fill), isometric system (Pa3 space group), with {222} unitcell. The crystal data is from Wyckoff (1969). The crystal shape is made up by using the following hkl indices: {100} and {110}. The length of the crystal is ~20Å (0.000002 mm).
Note: The color code used in these models is CPK. Atomic radii were used.
