National Monument No. 82. St. Carthach founded a monastery at Rahan, Co. Offaly, in the sixth century. Disused Romanesque church ruins located in the field to the east of St. Cathach’s C. of I. church. Rectangular shaped single cell church with fine Romanesque doorway in the centre of the western gable with later 15th/16th century single light ogee-headed window in the southern side wall of the church. A single light ogee-headed window of 15th/16th century date is visible in the centre of the eastern gable.
