The stripe, also called stocking or sword from side to strip, is a type of sword with thin and pointed double-edged blade that was popular in western Europe, both for civilian use (duel and self-defense) and as a weapon of war, throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. It is an evolution of the Italian side sword from the 16th century and is known as rapier in English, espada ropera in Spanish and rapière in French.
