The steam mill was built in 1811, increasing the capacity of the business and enabling milling on windless days. It was used until the business closed in 1934.
The engine was removed in 1940 and was later scrapped. The building became derelict and was demolished in 1960. The site then became overgown and hidden until it was excavated by volunteers. A separate model shows the remains as they appeared in photographs at the time of the excavation. This model provides a digital reconstruction of the excavated site.
