Extremo distal del arma arrojadiza. Se colocaban tanto en los astiles de las jabalinas como en los de las lanzas y de los pilae. Protegían el extremo del astil contra el desgaste y las astillas, y permitían que el arma se clavara en el suelo cuando no se utilizaba. Tienen una sección redonda y están fabricadas en hierro. En alguna ocasión presentan orificio para clavarlas al astil.

The butt spikes were attached to both javelin and spear shafts. They protected the end of the shaft from wear and splinters, and allowed the weapon to be driven into the ground when not in use. They have a round cross-section and are made of iron. They sometimes have a hole for nailing them to the shaft.
