A XV. century relief depicting the Lion of St. Mark (Leone di San Marco/Leone Marciano), incorporated in a segment of city walls (castellum?), at the western (“maritime”) entrance to the town of Osor, island of Cres, Croatia.

Mark the Evangelist is a patron saint, and depicted as a winged lion, also the symbol of the former Republic of Venice. Presented here in andante, with a halo around his head, and his right paw resting on an open book holding the Latin inscription… See annotation.
