Type: Four‑bladed bronze marine propeller Estimated Diameter: ~5.2 m Estimated Weight: ~20 tonnes Vessel: RMS Empress of Ireland (1906‑1914) Location: Wreck site off Pointe‑au‑Père, Quebec, Canada Depth: ~40 meters This propeller is one of two that powered the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company’s transatlantic liner Empress of Ireland. The ship sank in the Saint Lawrence River on the night of May 29, 1914, after colliding with the Norwegian collier Storstad. The disaster claimed the lives of 1,012 of the 1,477 people on board, making it one of the worst maritime tragedies in Canadian history. Following the sinking, several salvage operations were conducted, mainly to recover mail and silver bullion. In the 1920s, one of the ship’s two propellers was reportedly removed, but its fate remains uncertain. The other propeller, depicted here, remains attached to the wreck and is still visible to experienced technical divers. This model was made from 297 images. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Empress_of_Ireland
