More model informationThis pull-toy is a resin-cast replica of an early nineteenth century carved and painted toy that once belonged to a Macarthur child; it was played with either at Elizabeth Farm, Parramatta or later at the family’s estate Camden Park. Once described as a ‘merino sheep’, it is instead a spotted chital deer, indigenous to many parts of northern India. The original toy is likely to be a product of the extensive hand-made wooden toy industry of Rajasthan, India. When Elizabeth Farm first opened as a house museum it was furnished with museum replicas of known Macarthur objects, such as this.
Elizabeth Farm collection (original in private collection).
