Rhenish Ware, GR Monogram - Barwick's Ordinary3D Model
This sherd of Rhenish ware was discovered during excavations at Barwick’s Ordinary, an archaeological site in Eastern Maryland of a late 1700s tavern and inn. A fragment of the letter “G” is visible, once a part of the monogram “GR” for Georgius Rex or King George I or II. Complete examples can be seen here courtesy of the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab.
This model was made with photogrammetry using Agisoft MetaShape, Blender, and Instant Meshes. The image texture was retouched in the blue areas, to eliminate sheen that had washed out the color; a normal map adds definition to the details. Modeling was done by Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in collaboration with the Maryland Historical Trust and Washington College during the Archaeological Society of Maryland’s annual field session for 2022.
