Locality: Saguache, Colorado, USA
Size: 8.8 x 6.2 x 3.4 cm
Description: Rhodochrosite is a rose-red to a pink or gray mineral form of manganese carbonate with trigonal symmetry but occurring commonly in massive or columnar form, and rarely as rhombohedral crystals. Rhodochrosite is isomorphous with calcite and siderite, has a hardness of 3.5-4 on Mohs scale, and a specific gravity of 3.7; is a minor ore of manganese.
In this specimen the Rhodochrosite crystals are rhombohedrons with very sharp faces and edges.
