From the info board: “Formerly referred to as the Ice House, this structure is now thought to have been part of the Richmond Wells, which opened in 1696. … The Wells were demolished and replaced by Cardigan House in 1775. Cardigan House was owned by John Willis, the owner of The Cutty Sark in the mid to late 1800s. The concrete barrels which mark the path to the Spring Well are believed to have been moulded from barrels carried by The Cutty Sark, the renowned Tea Clipper … in Greenwich.”
