More model informationSmallish erratic boulder, granite, with a diameter of barely 40 cm. The stone shows a circular artificial groove around its circumference. This artefact type, called “Rillenstein” and thought to be prehistoric, is not uncommon in the northern part of Lower Saxony and its adjacent regions, see here for a list.
The stone was used as a spolia in the eastern wall of the Johannis chapel of the medieval Harsefeld monastery and discovered during the 1980ies excavations. It now is presented in a small lapidarium next to the museum in the “Klosterpark”.
