Another of the prehistoric carved rocks found on a boggy strip of land to the E of Rivock Edge on the SW end of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire. Boughey & Vickerman referenced the stone IAG 55 in their 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’, describing:
‘Medium-sized rock level with ground. Five fairly large cups, possible lines.’
Nearly a decade later, the CSI:Rombalds Moor project recorded the stone ‘Rivock 12’ on the England’s Rock Art database. However, due to vegetation and turf coverage most of the motifs were obscured at the time of recording. Only one of the previously referenced cup marks is visible on this model.
In their scheduling report, Historic England describe similar motifs to Boughey & Vickerman: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1011658
This decimated model was created from a single stereo pair captured by Peter Butler (CSI Team) in June 2013. The imagery forms part of the HLF funded CSI: Rombalds Moor / Watershed Landscape Project archive.
