Rivock (Slinger Stone)

This carved stone is located within Rivock plantation, towards the SW edge of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire. It was discovered in 2017 by Mr. Slinger and was first reported on The Northern Antiquarian website in August 2025.

The exposed portion of the stone measures approx 3.6 x 2.25 x 0.27 meters. Its surface features over 40 cup marks of varying sizes, most of which are surrounded by rings ( two double rings) - arranged in a clustered, cell-like pattern. Some appear countersunk, with others making use of the stone’s natural morphology.

A prominent NW–SE linear groove bisects the stone, superimposed over earlier motifs, dividing the carving into two halves. Additional curvilinear grooves are also present on the surface.

The plantation managers plan to remove nearby trees to safeguard the stone during future forestry operations.
