More model informationComing from the Kuenringerstraße in Zwettl, 168 partly covered stairs lead up to the Statzenberg to the district commission. Near the building is the monument of the poet Robert Hamerling, which was made in 1915 by Hans Brandstetter.
Robert Hamerling was born in Kirchberg am Walde in 1830 and was a poet and writer. From 1840 he attended the high school of the Cistercian Abbey Zwettl and then the Schottengymnasium in Vienna. Hamerling was one of the most widely read German authors in his day. His main works are Ahasver in Rom and Der König von Sion. On July 13, 1889 Hamerling died in the 60th laying year. In 1980, Austrian post put a commemorative stamp for its 150th birthday, streets in Vienna and Berlin were named after Hamerling.
