Rocca Aldobrandesca, Arcidosso Tuscany3D Model
The Arcidosso Castle, more formally known as the Rocca Aldobrandesca, is one of Tuscany’s most evocative and historically rich medieval fortresses, standing as a dominant and defining feature of the hilltop town of Arcidosso on the slopes of Monte Amiata in southern Tuscany.
Throughout the Middle Ages, the Rocca Aldobrandesca was a key military and administrative centre. From the 11th to the 14th centuries it was continuously expanded and fortified, with the addition of crenellated walls, watchtowers and defensive structures that made it a vital bulwark against incursions — particularly from the neighbouring Republic of Siena, which sought to expand into the Amiata hills.
Today, the Rocca Aldobrandesca remains one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Tuscany and one of the oldest stone fortifications in Europe that is fully accessible to the public.
