More model informationRoman Bridge, Deer Street, Piercebridge. These are remains of a bridge which once led to Piercebridge Roman Fort. The bridge consisted of at least 5 piers but the northern end has not been discovered despite an intensive search. As the river course moved northwards the southern end became supported by debris left by river floods and the piers were robbed and replaced by a causeway in the early 2nd century AD, dating evidence for which is a coin of Hadrian and early 2nd century pottery. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2011).
