This is the water filled quarry that was used in the 1979 movie Breaking Away. It is located in Bloomington, IN.
This model was shot with a GoPro Hero 4 Black on a Phantom 2 v.2. The phantom 2 has no integrated first person viewer (FPV). That means there is no live feed of what the camera is shooting as it is taking pictures.
The same site was shot with another GoPro by a different drone, 3DR SOLO. The 3DR SOLO has an integrated FPV. Here’s the link:
It is interesting to see how much more was captured using the FPV (the model from the link above). It gives the operator full control of what is being photographed. While capturing with the Phantom 2, I was essentially “flying blind” and guessing as to what I was photographing. If anyone is currently in the market for a drone for photogrammeric use, I would suggest getting one that has an integrated FPV. Most drones come standard with this feature nowadays, however, some of the older models don’t.
