For my modular environment I decided to go for a dungounus theme but with aspects of modern plumbing. I wanted the walls to be made of a coblestone type material being supported by wooden struts all throughout the pieces. The pips and metal bits around the pieces are there to make it seem like something beyond your understanding is happening outside of the environment. Like some kind of mad alchemist or scientist is building something either above you in the castle or down even futher underground in some kind of secret area. I kept the roughness reletively low for rocks because i wanted them to seem moist and damp. The idea behind the pieces is that you would piece them together to make a maze that goes from one door at one end to another door at the other and the player has to find their way through this dark damp maze.
