Rubha Port an t-Seilich - Horizon 13D Model
Excavated in 2018, this 4 x 5m trench, on the east coast of Islay in the Hebrides, overlooking Jura, focusses in on an area of prehistoric activity identified in a larger trench excavated in 2017 and an evaluation trench in 2013. Horizon 1 is the uppermost horizon observed in 2018 after removal of some orange/brown colluvium and we can clearly see a mesolithic work surface comprised of shaped coarse stone tools and dark charcoal-rich deposits emerging, as originally observed in the evaluation trench section. More info can be found here: On a plateau facing the Sound of Jura and located near Port Askaig, this Mesolithic knapping plateau is an ongoing project, recording in detail the lithic scatters and other tools.
