Black running shoes in size 38 by the brand Oysho; approximately 5 years old.

At first glance, these shoes don’t seem very valuable, they are obviously used, dirty and not in a good condition. Nevertheless, during the pandemic of 2020 they became an essential and highly valuable object for their wearer. Due to legal restrictions to contain the Corona-virus, sports facilities such as fitness studios had to close and sporting club life came to a standstill. Running (and walking) posed one option to stay active and helped people to escape the Covid-19 situation, whilst also abiding the restrictions. For the owner, these shoes are therefore symbolic of a feeling of freedom and self-determination. Moreover, they serve as a reminder of how important it is to take care of one’s own health, physically as well as mentally.
