In chemistry, orbitals describe the location and shape that electrons (negative charges) occupy around the nucleus.
An s orbital is a spherically symmetric shape with the nucleus at its center. This shape represents where electron density can statistically be found. Electrons can occupy a 1s, 2s, 3s… depending on the atoms energy level.
