Located in the centre of Rotterdam, Schouwburgplein is surrounded by both commercial and cultural locations. On one side of the square is a concert hall, and on the other is Theater Rotterdam . To the west a cinema and to the east aan entrance to a busy shopping street. While the square is seen by some as a good example of porosity, not everyone agrees with this statement. Some find it to be a space for everyone and everything, while others question its purpose.
To capture this ambiguity, the group decided to focus on the patch of artificial grass that covers almost the entire square. Aliteral symbol of non-porosity, it hides several water fountains that creating moments of improvised fun. An example of these can be witnessed by group of children that…
