Established in the 1940s, Sabahy Textile and Clothes factory is a significant emblem of the Alexandria’s industrial heritage.
The Sabahy Clothes and Textile Factory in Alexandria, Egypt, is situated along what was once the Al Mahmoudiyah Canal (a man-made waterway along the city of Alexandria) linking it with the Port of Alexandria. The factory played a pivotal role in the development of Egypt’s cotton and textile industry, a sector vital to the city’s economic expansion. Records suggest that over 13,000 people worked there. This shows its importance not only as an industrial site but also as a key player in the socio-economic fabric of Alexandria.
Today, the Sabahy Factory stands as a symbol of Alexandria’s past industrial achievements and a critical part of the city’s collective memory.
