Shape and color are the two brushes we use to interpret what we see and, in general, neither is above the other. However, when we talk about humans and gender, I believe shape takes precedence.
When I see a sculpture with some “painting” I imagine it’s like it’s using makeup, and I think these master pieces are all about naturalness. My work tries to mantain some base material keeping the naturalness but reinforcing the shape and mood, being curves an emotion my conductors of feminity, with something equally natural, water. This is also a nice way of making elements interact with the environment and that, I believe, helps people empathize with the sculpture.
To sum up, I use water and leaks and the way it darkens some areas to boost up the natural feminity of the curves of the original Venus.
