More model informationThis 3D model shows a portion of St. John’s northern coast. Founded as a Danish colony in 1718, St John’s Island enforced a slave-based economy for over 130 years, primarily producing sugar for the European market. In 1796, James Murphy purchased the land seen here, consolidating several plantations, including Annaberg (center of the model).
On the far left of the model are the ruins of Murphy’s “”Great House,”” looking over the Bay and plantations. Beneath his ruins are the remains of the garrison, built to maintain captivity of the slaves.
