Sarcophagus lid

This coffin lid made of wood belonged to Nespawershefyt, an official at the Temple of Amun in Karnak, Egypt, who lived around 990-940 BC.

Depicted on the sarcophagus are hieroglyphics and scenes which translate into instructions for the Afterlife, according to the Book of the Dead.

The mummy-board is currently being exhibited at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
