This 15th century fort was built by ban Ivan Morović. The fort has an irregular plan, with a large and regular square bell tower measuring 10x10m. The remains of plaster and large style windows (which are not present in any of the surrounding fortifications) testify that it was not only a soldier’s fort, but it was documented to be also a Franciscan monastery.
Along with the fort and the monastery, a settlement was soon developed, which was first mentioned in 1481. (as Voćin). Only after the fort was abandoned in 1736 that the name Šarengrad first appeared.
Fort Šarengrad was surrounded by a wide ditch and all the walls were made of solid brick. The northern parts of the defense wall had long since disappeared, with a low four-sided entrance from the southern side, from which a few walls were preserved, and through a wide door into the main tower, which had a barrel vault on the ground floor and a gothic vault on the second floor. What was in the spacious yard, today is very difficult to say.
