More model informationThis small engraved antler plate was found during excavation at Six Dials, Hamwic a Saxon site in Southampton (SOU 31). It’s high quality suggests that it was made somewhere in Scandinavia and most likely belonged on the spine of a book, or perhaps a casket.
This Saxon anter plate has been laser scanned as part of a collaborative project between Southampton Cultural Services and the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton.
This object has also been photographed for the Southampton Stories website: https://southamptonstories.co.uk/elastic-search/?si_elastic_detail=SOTLS%20:%20A1992.75.1573
