Sayuri lives on her own inside of what remains of the Hakama Temple, where she used to serve as a miko. This temple, once flourishing and attended by nearby villagers, now stands empty and shabby, hidden by an impenetrable undergrowth. It all began the night when Sayuri walked to the altar as in some sort of trance: the other priestesses, thinking she was just sleepwalking, came to her trying to wake her up. As soon as they touched her, Sayuri burst into flames and started setting on fire anything and anyone who stood on her path. Even her grandma, the temple’s high priestess, was a victim of that unexplicable accident. Before her death, she whispered to her niece: “It’s not your fault. They’ll look for you. Hide, the kitsune will protect you” Since then, Sayuri lives isolated from the rest of the world. Kota the Kitsune has been her only friend since then, protecting her and helping to vehicle her amazing powers against the yo-kais who were constantly trying to conquer the Hakama temple remains.
