"Schematic" Chess Set

This chess set design was inspired by schematic chess drawings. (See example below.) I was so charmed by the chess piece symbols that I wanted to see if I could turn them into a “playable” set.

After modeling the pieces, I added bases to the knight, bishop, queen, and king to establish the proper hierarchy. (Otherwise, the pawn would have been taller than the king.)

I particularly love that the bishop, queen, and king are represented by elaborate headgear.
