More model informationSchist is a metamorphic rock that contains a lot of mica, giving it a laminated, or platy, texture. This means that the rock will break into thin flakey layers, like a good pastry. Various other minerals may be incorporated into the schist, giving it different colors, from red to gold to green. And, it often seems to shimmer. Schist is not rare at Poverty Point, but it is often found in small pieces and it typically doesn’t show signs of having been worked. Maybe the evidence has flaked away over time …or maybe schist was the Archaic version of glitter?
